Rimmy travelled to the Memorial Ground on Thursday evening looking to consolidate their place in the top three having suffered a heavy defeat the previous weekend against Barnoldswick Town.

A block from McCarthy prevented a dig from distance early in the game, as things opened up for Fenny in what was a good opening spell from them.

On 17 minutes a winding run from James brought a blocked shot as he edged towards the penalty box. His work earned his side a corner. Samuel Langford’s low cross bounced inside the six-yard box and was allowed to make its way across the face of the goal into the net via the post.

Clear-cut chances remained at a premium, with both sides wasting the opportunity to cause damage from good areas.

But good work from Bagot saw him link with Smith and Cook as he dodged his way into the area. He dropped a shoulder and went for a stinging drive but the home keeper fell low to make a fine save.

A crunching tackle from Dakin sparked the next attack as he was able to run into the unexpected space created by the challenge. Bagot showed once again but his shot was stopped at source on this occasion.

HT 0-1

A dipping shot was blocked by Birkett as Fenny started to pull the strings, and another effort from the lively fullback suffered the same outcome when an excellent move left him with just the defender to get past.

Hats off to Kershaw in the very next attack as he produced an unbelievable save to deny what looked to be a certain goal. He somehow deflected a fierce drive over the bar with his hand.

Rimmy responded well and a flowing move down the right saw Monk overlap as Smith and Hovey combined. He took a touch and shot wide across the face of goal.

On 71 minutes a cleanly struck shot was spilled by veteran stopper Kershaw. Fenny’s striker reacted quickly to pick up the loose pieces and lifted the ball over Kershaw.

A diagonal pass from Cook found substitute Bailey hugging the touchline with Rimmy finding space, and he stepped inside before having a shot blocked.

But it was a short-lived reprieve as a deep free kick from Langford fell into the path of the front man James Tootle . He stretched out a leg and the ball nestled in the back of the net.

Fenny right back sent a shot wide as the hosts played their part in what was a tense close to the game, and James did the same at the other end as the Rimmy continued to try to play their football to find a way through.

Rimmy were able to run the clock down as they got forward with possession, and they wrapped it up deep into time added on. Chris Bailey made no mistake with a well taken finish from another Langford free kick.
